Whatta Morning!

I woke up to head to the restroom. I could hear cars passing in the distance. So I looked at my phone thinking it was close to time to wake up only to be surprised that it was only 3:10am! I was like “are you kidding me.”

I tried to go back to sleep, but I just couldn’t. And then it happened, the social media scroll. It gets me almost every time I’m awake like this and I know the time. Therefore, I can’t mark off that I met my habit for the day, but that’s ok.

After a while, my brain got engaged and started working on the first official blogpost for this page. As I feverishly wrote, I saw it take shape in the best way possible, giving highlight after highlight with how I navigated the week, including a never-happened-before incident. (I promise you’ll laugh at this one.)

Once I finished the post I turned on my happy light and listened to a Morning Worship, THEN I went to sleep…right when it was time to wake up. I decided to go ahead and acquiesce. But what happened next?

Happy Light and Notebook. Always within arms reach.

I struggled to get ready. I skipped my workout and realized my Bible reading was too long to read for me to leave on time. I got distracted by trying on clothes and had to talk to myself out loud to get on track. I talked to myself and said you can do one thing from your morning routine that’s going to make a difference in your day.

I sat down where I had everything and began journaling, but not before I told Siri to set a timer for two minutes. Brain dumping here I come! I was able to pack my food, make my smoothie, and walk out the door at 8:51 AM, which was only one minute after the intended time to leave.

How was I able to do this after the morning that I had?

Here are the keys to my success:

1. Understanding that I don’t have to do everything for a long time for it to be effective.

2. Choosing the highest priority activity to do.

3. Checking the time frequently and using timers to help me stay on track.

I share this with my clients using the Mindfully Productive: Time Management 101 Course-Where the Masterplan Meets Action. You can find her here.

A crazy morning doesn’t have to ruin your day. You can own it by managing your mind and managing your time, the neurodivergent way!

Stay mindfully productive.

Xoxo,
