An Oxymoron of a Day

“Today I feel like I’ve done a ton and nothing at all at the same time.”

The day started out pretty well. I woke up a little before 5am. I tell you though, I refused to get up that early. I laid in bed until about 6ish. Part of my routine is to watch a Morning Routine with my happy light on. (This is a frequent part of my big.) One thing I’ve learned recently is that it does take about 30-60 minutes for my brain to wake up, so this is why I allow myself to just lay there when I wake up too early.

I worked through the rest of my morning routine-exercise, shower, dress, journal, read daily Bible text and my preferred Bible reading chapter based on that text. Then I started into my to-do list. And it was definitely a list.

It was about 8ish when I began this. One thing that really had me feeling like I didn’t do anything was how long it took me to start my date entry for the planner. It’s such a boring task. No lie. The planner is amazing, but this part of having it come together-yeah lol. I actually left the house at one point to carry off the recycling.

I intended to take a nap, but got a message from my friend Stephanie (from one of the last blogs) to go over our Bible talk. I was already needing to lay down, yet the time was good for her; sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

By 2:00pm, I said what was at the outset of the post in the Nourishment Nest, where I have accountability for self-care. It was coupled with, “Now time to write down what I’ve done to see it’s been more than my brain realizes.” And that’s exactly what I did.

My List

So why did it feel like I did a ton and nothing at all?

The tasks that I did really didn’t take much time. The results of what I did also weren’t immediate, but some were going towards goals that will get me results. Some were for fun, and some were for me.

Your mind can trick you into thinking you’ve done nothing when you’ve accomplished a lot. Retraining the brain to be progress driven versus results driven is key. Writing down what I did helped me ground myself.

That’s one of the keys in my life and my coaching: WRITE IT DOWN. ✍🏽

Get it out of your head and on paper. If not, you’re going to live thinking you’re not doing anything.
