It was the perfect day. The weather was mild, had a slight breeze, and the sun was shingling with just enough clouds to sprinkle into the blue skies. I decided that instead of just sitting outside or standing out there to ground with my bare feet, I would eat there too.
I spread out my blanket, and sat down. I prayed before I ate then just listened to the sounds. The birds chirping, hearing the wind wrestling through the trees in a playful way, and cars along the highway at a distance.
Lunch today is a homemade poke bowl with garden-fresh lettuce, (thanks Stephanie and Robert!), black beans, quinoa, avocado, and shrimp with a drizzle of cinnamon pear balsamic vinaigrette. Now can you say delish!

I love being a simple cook. It gives me more time to enjoy the things I love, such as grounding or being outside.
When you leave the space you’re in, sit in the sun, eat, and ground yourself, you fuel your brain with all the right things.
How so?
- Changing spaces allows you to give your mind a break from what you’re working on. It literally creates space. You can problem solve better and execute the task with more efficiency.
- Sitting in the sun increases dopamine, thus fueling your executive functions that have been depleted from whatever you were doing. This is crucial for those with ADHD, and naturally some are in a more depleted state by default.
- Eating gives the brain power. You can’t truly focus when you’re hungry. I mean you can, but what’s the quality of your work like. Then if you wait too long you grab the wrong things only to get sleepy or crash.
- Grounding your bare feet in grass is known to reduce stress and increase feelings of overall wellbeing. This contributes to a good mood. It’s easier to do things when you’re happier; hands down!
